Wow, half the year is gone already. It’s hard to believe how fast time is moving. It’s past time for another update from Helping Hands so here we go; in late May I received a phone call from the people we help with Israel shipments. We were told times were hard in Israel, a lot of Jews are returning home with nothing and that there was a great need. We were asked if we could put a shipment together to send. Usually we only send Winter clothing, blankets and diapers, this time we were told any season clothing would be great. We were able to put together seven pallets and the first of June they were loaded on a truck. We just this week received word the shipment is Ocean bound.

The Honduras shipment arrived in June. If you are interested in what Denton is and how it works, you can follow this link to a special article.

And, for the other side of the story;

In regards to the Denton shipment that was shipped to Enlaces con Cristo, via Helping Hands Ministry. We received the shipment 6-13-2014.

Medical supplies will be going to the Public Hospital in La Paz and the Public health departments in Comayagua. Potty chairs, blankets, adult diapers and other medical supplies went to the nursing home, as well as individuals who have solicited them by writing. The wheel chair will go to Guasistagua for a young girl with cerebral palsy.

Bikes and toys have been given out through the Enlaces Youth Center. Sofas and other furniture is also given out through the youth center to different public institutions and through individual solicitations we have received from people living under poverty conditions.

Clothes and Shoes will be donated to local communities, such as Tierra Blanca, La Trinidad Taulabe and San Isador. Some have been distributed to individuals that have submitted written solicitations to our ministry or have been sent to us from the Mayor and Governor of Comayagua.

Sincerely,
Sandi Miller Burgess

Helping Hands is still supporting the Robbins Area Christian Ministries thrift store. They had a vision to start a hygiene program as part of their meeting the needs program. Helping Hands used part of the grant funding we received in the Spring to purchase enough of the needed items such as toilet paper, paper towels, tooth brushes, toothpaste and other such items. It was enough to get the new program launched.

We’ve had several work days in the warehouse and will have to have others. We are presently working on a new shipment for Honduras.

We are also receiving a lot of calls and requests for medical items we have in the warehouse. Several of the home health agencies call me with requests sometimes two or three a day. Let me share an example, two weeks ago I received a call from a representative asking if I had a cane. He had an 80 year old lady in need and she could not afford one. I told him I had several and set a time to meet him at the warehouse. He came and picked one out that he said would work great. He went on to tell me that this lady had received some bad news that week and that she was with him when he called me. She was really down cast because of her news. He said as soon as she heard that we did have a cane and that she could have one at no charge, he said her whole countenance changed. She was very happy to know that she could get one. He said it really made a lot of difference to know someone cared. That’s just one example.

In this past week, we’ve given out a hospital mattress, 5 automatic blood pressure cuffs, walkers, canes, glucometers and supplies for them and we have a hospital bed that will be picked up next week. All in one week!

Times are hard for a lot of people and I believe will get worse. As long as God supplies, Helping Hands will continue to give. If you want to help, just let me know what you want to do. My cell is 910-690-5527 - give me a call.

We will continue following Christ,
