Tony Haywood

Tony Haywood is married to Donna and has a 34-year-old son. He also has one grandchild named Max, who is going on two.

My parents were members of a Presbyterian Church and had me and my siblings in church every Sunday. After my marriage, my wife and I started attending a local Methodist Church. We were there for twelve years, and then moved to another church where God started using us in missions.

My first mission trip was to Haiti. Four months later I went on my next mission trip to Russia and Romania.  I returned to Russia three more times, where God showed me the great need of the people for food and medicine. In fact, between the second and third trips, I went to some doctors' offices and asked for samples of antibiotics that I could carry with me. I ended up with a suitcase full that I transported to give away at a children’s hospital.  I was told later by others that I would never be allowed to carry the medicines through Customs, but I was, and did!

I made several more trips to Haiti, after which I came home and shipped computers back down there, along with other needed items. Then I made a trip to Kenya which was very much God-orchestrated. This was followed by three more trips to Kenya.  I usually traveled with an Evangelist, who did all the preaching.  I was along as a helper for whatever else was needed.

In 1996, God spoke clearly to Donna and I that we were to start a ministry of Helps.  He even gave us the name, Helping Hands Ministry.

God connected us to people in Honduras, and guided us to the Denton Program which we used to ship supplies to other countries.  We have shipped or supplied items to over twenty different countries since 1996.

I have led many mission teams, including a team of 43 people to Honduras for a medical brigade, and 24 people to Kenya to do missions.

I continue to follow the leading of the Lord, even though, sometimes, I question if he has the right person.
